Papa Bear and his Cubs

Brett walked in the house after a very long week at work. His boys were all ready to go camping, with high hopes in the air that they would finally see a deer out on our lease.  While he was sitting in this chair he reminded me of Papa Bear. He was so tired, but nothing would stop him from pressing forward with his Thanksgiving plans to hunt all weekend and all next week with his kids.

There's something very nostalgic during the minutes the guys are getting ready to go hunting together.  I guess in the back of my mind I know they are embarking on an experience that keeps families together forever.  They have so much fun being together! There's not a single place in this world these four boys would rather be than with each other.  We have really gotten lucky having teens that prefer being together than with their friends. This year Eathyn was so excited because the "big" boys wanted him to go hunting with them.  He's such a lucky little boy having big brother that love him so much.  Brandon and Austin went to Walmart to buy some camo for Austin.  While they were there they called and asked if they could buy Eathyn some camo too.  How could I resist?  I knew Eathyn would be so excited!
It sounds like they all froze while camping out at our lease, but that didn't stop them from having a great time.  Austin and Brandon walked in the house and were so excited about their adventure behind their guns. They were hunting after dark last night with a spot light and they spotted a skunk. It was walking towards them so Brandon figured he'd shoot him to avoid getting sprayed.  They were both so excited! Brandon felt like he'd just not had enough adventure for the day.  He pulled the trigger and shot that stupid skunk with a 243 riffle and the skunk was still moving so he shot it two more times with his 22. When they went to inspect their work he evidently had shot the bag that holds the awful scent, skunks are so famous for.  They both came home smelling like skunk despite their heroic efforts to avoid getting sprayed.  Shortly after they shot the skunk Brett called me and said, "You're boys are so cute! They shot this skunk and put it in a bucket.  They said, 'we want to take it home and show mom.'" I was warmed at the thought they would think of me but thankful Brett intervened and told them there was no way they were going to haul that skunk home to show mom. Of course the boys hunted all day and Brett and Eathyn palled around with each other.  I am so thankful I am sealed to a man as wonderful as Brett.  Happily ever after is a lot of fun with Brett as my husband and him as the father of my children.
